Put the plan together

School-holiday dates vary by state, territory and school system. Public-school calendars are a starting point; Catholic and independent schools and individual student attendance arrangements may differ. Confirm the dates with your own school before paying for travel.

  1. Check the official calendar for the correct year and jurisdiction, then confirm your school’s final attendance day and first day back, including school-specific arrangements.
  2. Compare departures within that confirmed window. Count usable nights at your destination after flights and transfers; a longer school break does not require a longer trip.
  3. Work backwards from school return. Allow time at home for sleep, unpacking and preparation, and compare each destination’s season, transfer needs and suitability for your children.
